On Tuesday, two new School Board members were sworn in, Clare Irwin of Sutton replaced Celeste Girrell and Alyssa May of Burke replaced Rachel Roy. Biff Mahoney (Sheffield), Erin Rossetti (Lyndon) and Holly Taylor (Lyndon) were reelected.

I visited schools, attended school leadership meetings, went to the statehouse to advocate for our schools, touched base with a number of people and looked at all sorts of piles of papers on my desk.

Today I had the best day I’ve had in a long time. I visited classrooms and read Curious George Goes to the Library with two young ladies. Then I played this “21” math card game with a young man who was sharp as a whip (he won).

The end of this week made me thankful for working in a school district. For anyone out there who is feeling lost, simply sit down with a youngster, play a math game or a card game and read a book. It will change your entire perspective on life. Thank you to everyone who makes this happen!

Sutton School Principal

Ken Hayes, principal at Sutton has been on medical leave. Folks at Sutton have been working above and beyond, taking on organizational and leadership tasks. Ken will be out for four more weeks. He asked several folks to help provide support on a part time basis.

After considering options, I made the decision to appoint Rachel Robillard for the next four weeks as an interim temporary principal. Should the need arise for a longer solution we will have a transparent and participatory search and selection process.

Rachel has been a principal intern, both taking on principal duties and completing her coursework to obtain a principal license. She has many years of experience as a teacher, math coach and leader. Stacy Rice will work to fill the responsibilities and holes left by Rachel at Burke.

Fitness Class

Staff Wellness Committee and our Healthy SU Grant are sponsoring a Core Training class conducted by Northern Physical Therapy. The class will be at the 黑料网 East Offices (conference room) on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15.

Cost for the class is $12.50 for the 5 classes.

Only 20 spots available. The first 20 who pay for the class will be on the list. You can give the money (checks made out to Northern Physical Therapy) to your building leader.
